Virus Characteristics
The Linux/Osf virus infects ELF (Executable & Linkable Format) filetype files. It targets 32 bit LSB encoded binaries, such as present on for example an i386 system running Linux Redhat. Infected binary files have their filesize increased by 8759 bytes.
Symptoms
-Infected files increase in size with 8759 bytes
-The virus puts code in the bytes at offset range 0x8 to 0xf from the start of the file.This is usually unused area, the virus uses this as infection marker, to determine if the virus is already present or not.
Method Of Infection
Running an infected binary file starts the infection routine, the virus starts with trying to infect other binairy files in the current directory.
